The Cow Tripped Over the Moon

National Simultaneous Story time

What do you mean, ‘The Cow Tripped Over the Moon?' could well have been a legitimate question on 24 May when Inglewood State School P-10 students celebrated the Alia National Simultaneous Story time event at 11am.

The event is held annually by the Australian Library and Information Association and a picture book, written and illustrated by an Australian author and illustrator, is selected to be read, simultaneously, at various locations around the country.  Last year saw more than 520 000 children at over 3 500 locations take part and Inglewood State School P-10 counted ourselves fortunate to be part of the fun.

This year’s choice, The Cow Tripped Over the Moon by Tony Wilson and Laura Wood, was an enormous success with our students.  Or maybe it was the dramatic reading style of Mrs Sandy Hobbs (who runs our Playgroup each week at the school)or the outlandish depiction of the story by our wonderful librarian, Mrs Wendy Johns?  Both ladies are no stranger to hilarious escapades in the name of improving our students’ reading and access to good literature so it was hard to determine if the students enjoyed the story or the antics of this creative duo more!  Whichever it was, the students participated enthusiastically and are no doubt ready for more next year.

Adding to the fun of the event, students the following day were encouraged to come to school dressed as their favourite book character and the results made for some entertaining discussions throughout the day. All in all, it was a fantastic way to celebrate the joy to be had from reading and books and we thank our amazing teacher aides for their contributions toward making this event the great experience that it was for all.

What will be the book next year?
