Inglewood SS wins the day!

Triumph…despair…euphoria…anguish…these were feelings experienced by every player at the Inaugural St Mary’s Goondiwindi versus Inglewood State School volleyball match held late last term at St Mary’s.  Every ball held the promise of success or failure and both teams had a belief in themselves that held strong throughout the game.
Inglewood SS and St Mary’s vied constantly for supremacy and dominance see-sawed between the teams throughout the duration of the hotly-contested game.  Thankfully, Inglewood emerged victorious!  However the teams were well-matched and victory was never assured for either team.
Students gained enormously from the experience in skill development, confidence and team spirit and our thanks is given to St Mary’s for providing this opportunity of a social game after several weeks of training.  Students from Years 7, 8 and 9 were invited and the set scores of 25-23 (to us), 19-25 (to them) and the deciding set, 25-15 (to us) provided a nail-biting finish for all spectators!
A re-match this term is in the planning and one thing is for certain – the sumptuous afternoon tea provided by the St Mary’s parents (which we summarily demolished) has thrown the gauntlet down to our parents for when it is our turn to host (which we accepted with relish!).
Congratulations to Steven (team captain, who led by example – fantastic in all areas), Jai (superb in attack and defence), Emily (great support by going for the shots no one else wanted!), Zeb (super-server who was cool under pressure), Mackenzie (Calling-Out King – and he’s usually so quiet!), Ethan (brilliant all-round scrambling to save shots), Lachie (magnificent back-court work) and Brock (all-round support to all when we needed it most) – what a terrific team!  Everyone served their little hearts out and are keen for a re-match!
Our team eyes are set on All Schools’ Cup in October later this year (in Brisbane) so training and other games will continue this term in the lead-up.
Last term’s game has whetted our appetites for more and we look forward to sharing our journey with you as the year progresses! Go Inglewood SS!!!
